Creating a Document Step by Step

1. Turn on the BrailleNote. You should be at the Main Menu.

2. Press W (dots 2-4-5-6) for KeyWord Menu.

3. Press C (dots 1-4) to Create a Document. BrailleNote will ask "folder name?", press enter for General (or whatever folder you were last using). Press the ENTER key.

4. BrailleNote will ask "Document to Create?". Type a name for your document, then press ENTER. You will automatically begin at the top of your document. You're ready to write!

NOTE: When you are finished writing in your document, make sure to go back to the Main Menu (press Space and all six dots). The BrailleNote automatically saves your work. The next time you open your document, you will be able to braille where you left off the last time.

Opening a Document

1. Turn on the BrailleNote. You should be at the Main Menu.

2. Press W (dots 2-4-5-6) for KeyWord Menu.

3. Press O (dots 1-3-5) to Open a Document. BrailleNote will ask "folder name?", press enter for General (or spacebar to hear a list of folders). Press the Enter key.

4. BrailleNote will ask "Document to Open?", and will offer to open the most recent document you were working on. Press Spacebar to cycle through the list of documents you have in the folder you're in, then press ENTER. Note that the BrailleNote cursor will be at the bottom of your document, where you left off last time. To get to the top of your document, press SPACE with dots 1-2-3.

EXTRA: If you're at the top of your document, to have BrailleNote read aloud what you have written so far, press SPACE with G (dots 1-2-4-5). If speech is turned off, you can turn it on again by pressing SPACE with the first thumb key, until you hear "Speech On". To read what you've written on the Braille Display, you can move through your document by pressing the fourth thumb key--remember that the BrailleNote BT18 displays only 18 characters at a time.

Spell Checking a Document

1. At a document, go to the top by pressing SPACE with dots 1-2-3/Read+T.

2. Press SPACE with dots 1-6 to access Spell Checker Menu then press D for Document Check.

3. If a word that is misspelled comes up, KeyWord says, "(word). Option?" At this point, you have several options:

    • Press C to type a replacement word.
    • Press S for Suggestions list. In the list, if a replacement word is found, press ENTER to select the suggestion.
    • Press SPACE with dot 5/Read+K to skip this word and go to the next one.
    • Press I to ignore this word.
    • Press L to look up this word in the spelling dictionary. If a replacement word is found, press ENTER to select it.

For items L and S, an additional prompt, "Correct all or first" is displayed. If you want to correct all occurrences, press A for "All." For this word only, press F for "First."

After the spell check is complete, KeyWord should announce the number of total words and misspelled words.
