Overview

There might be a time when a teacher or a colleague wants to view what is displayed on the BrailleNote. For this reason, a feature called "Visual Display" exists to facilitate this scenario. HumanWare has created a feature-rich visual display component called "KeyView" that offers many features for viewing BrailleNote's information on a computer monitor.

How does it work?

A visual display "translates" what is displayed on a source machine to the target device, such as displaying information from a BrailleNote to a computer monitor. HumanWare's KeyView displays information that is spoken and/or displayed on a BrailleNote on a computer monitor. This is achieved by connecting a BrailleNote to a computer using serial cable, Bluetooth (mPower and PK) and infrared (mPower and Classic).

How do I obtain KeyView and install it?

KeyView can be downloaded by pressing ENTER here.

When the "File Download" dialog appears, either press S for Save (to save the setup file to the computer) or R for Run (to install the software immediately after download is complete) if it exists.

To install the software:

Note: Before you do this, locate the software that you've downloaded using Windows Explorer and and press ENTER to begin the install. If it displays "Security Warning" dialog, press ENTER on Run button.

    • At the start screen, press ENTER on Next.
    • At the next screen, press ENTER on Next.
    • At the "Select folder to install" dialog, press ENTER on Next button to install to the designated folder.
    • At the "Select Program Group" dialog, press ENTER on Next.
    • At the next screen, select Next. The software then installs KeyView components.
    • At the screen that appears, select Finish button. You are done.

To run KeyView, go to start Menu/Programs/HumanWare/KeyView/KeyView.

How to Connect to the Visual Display

    • Connect the one end of a serial cable to the BrailleNote's serial port, and connect the other end to the serial port on the computer.
    • On the computer, go to Start/Programs/Humanware/KeyView/KeyView.
    • At the "Choose a Com Port," press TAB to go to the list box and select the type of com port you are using (this can be either serial or Bluetooth). If using serial conection, press ENTER on Communications Port 1 (Com1) item. The KeyView window should appear.
    • On the BrailleNote, go to Options Menu (SPACE with O/FN+O) and choose Visual Display (V). At the "Visual Display" prompt, press S for Serial then press ENTER. The information that is currently on the BrailleNote should now be displayed on the computer monitor.

To disconnect the visual display: on the BrailleNote, go to Options Menu/Visual Display, then press F (for Off) then ENTER. This should be done in order to conserve battery power. On the PC, press Alt+F4 to close KeyView window. Be sure to disconnect the serial cable from both ends.
