Embossing using Bluetooth (mPower only)

Background

Unlike Braillenote Classic, Braillenote mPower does not have a parallel port. This port was mainly used for printing and embossing to a printer with a parallel port. But there is a workaround for mPower units to emboss using a virtual port - Bluetooth. In addition to connecting to the Internet, Bluetooth can be used to print and emboss on the mPower.

What do I need

You need:

  1. A Braillenote mPower.

  2. A printer or an embosser.

  3. A Bluetooth dongle (usually connects to the parallel port on the printer or the embosser).

Procedure

  1. Connect the Bluetooth dongle to the parallel port on the printer or embosser and connect the power cord of the dongle to the wall outlet. Make sure that printer or embosser is turned on.

  2. On the Braillenote mPower, go to Main Menu/Options Menu (SPACE with O/FN+O on QT)/Connectivity (C)/Bluetooth (B).

  3. At the "Bluetooth On" prompt, press Y to turn it on. If Bluetooth was turned off, a message "Starting Bluetooth" should appear.

  4. At "Search for devices" prompt, press Y to search for the Bluetooth dongle. Braillenote displays, "searching for Bluetooth devices, please wait."

  5. After few moments, Braillenote should say, "List of Bluetoth devices." Press SPACE to see the name of the dongle. Press ENTER.

  6. Next, Braillenote says, "Pair with (dongle) and activate?" where dongle is the name of the Bluetooth dongle. Press Y for yes.

  7. At the "Authentication code" prompt, press ENTER to leave it blank. A message "Paired with (dongle)" is displayed.

  8. Now, go to Main Menu (SPACE with dots 1-2-3-4-5-6/Menu key on QT)/Word processor (W)/Emboss (E).

  9. At the prompt, "Emboss or setup embosser," choose Setup (S). The setup list should appear.

  10. Press SPACE until you hear/see "Embosser port" prompt. Press B for bluetooth then press ENTER.

  11. Press SpACE with E (ESC on QT) to exit the ist; when prompted to confirm changes, press Y to confirm it. You are now ready to emboss using Bluetooth.

Try embossing, for example, Demonstration Document.

Just like embossing, printing via Bluetooth uses same procedure.

Notes

  • After you are done embossing using Bluetooth, be sure to turn off Bluetooth (go to Options Menu/Connectivity/Bluetooth then press N to turn Bluetooth off).

  • If you have connected the Bluetooth dongle to the printer/embosser but if Braillenote cannot find it, this means that the power cord is not connected. Connect the AC adapter to the wall outlet and try again.
