Background
I'm trying to download an mp3 file from a website. Every time I press ENTER on the link in question, Media Player comes up and begins to play the file. Is there a way to have KeyWeb download the files?
Solution
Yes, it is possible to do this under KeySoft 6.2 or higher. But first, a little bit of backstory...
By default, BrailleNote is set to "stream" or play audio files online. This is useful for listening to live podcasts and radio shows. however, there might be a time when a user needs to download the audio file in question.
To change this behavior:
- At the website where there is an audio link, press BACKSPACE with O (CTRL+2 on QT) to go to Internet Options Menu. (Applies to KeySoft 6.2 and later; KeySoft 6.1 and earlier users should press ENTER with M).
- At the Internet Options, press I for Internet File Management, then press F for File Download.
- At the File Download list, press SPACE to go to "Stream audio links" prompt. To enable streaming of audio files on the Internet, press Y for yes; if you want to have KeyWeb download the file, press N for No. Press ENTER to confirm the choice.
After you are done, press SPACE with E/ESC several times to exit File Download list, Internet File Management then Internet Options altogether. The next time you press ENTER on an audio link, KeyWeb presents "download file to which drive" prompt, i.e. File Download prompt where you can select a place to store the file.
Special Notes
This procedure works properly with a BrailleNote mPower or PK running KeySoft 6.2 and 7.0 and later, respectively.
